The rose
parade on 82nd Ave in Portland Oregon was cancelled due to violent
threats made by an ‘anonymous’ person. The threats said that if the organizers
allowed the Multnomah GOP to march in the parade they would send 100’s of
people in to “push and drag” them out. It is understandable that the
organizers, after appealing to the police for more protection and were told
they did not have the manpower, would cancel the parade because they did not
want the families enjoying the parade to get hurt.
The people
behind these acts are the same people who were behind the anti-Trump riots in
Portland after the election. Two groups, Direct Action Alliance and Oregon
Students Empowerment are the ones organizing the protests against the parade
though they claim to know nothing of the threatening email. Direct Action
Alliance told the Washington Post “no Portland child will see a march in
support of this fascist regime go unopposed.” If you go to the Facebook pages
of both groups you’ll see the backlash they have received. A group of people,
outraged that the event was shut down, are holding a free speech rally and walk
along the parade route. Direct Action Alliance and Oregon Students Empowerment
both plan on showing up to shut down the rally.
It would
seem Portland is headed for a standoff like the one seen in Berkeley California.
If the police won’t protect the rights of the people and the public officials refuse
to do anything then the people will take things into their own hands. Hopefully
the rally will be peaceful and show these Antifa groups they will not be
tolerated. Only time will tell.
